- 80,000 to 100,000 visitors PER DAY are expected in the Weymouth & Portland area to experience the sailing events of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- In 2011 there will be three major sailing events, including the Olympic test event, so hotels, guest houses & self catering accommodation are having to gear up for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
- Many refurbishments, developments and venues need help, services, products and advice - from language translation, marketing, creating space for outdoor leisure equipment, disabled access and much more.
- New restaurants, bars and cafes are opening simply because of the Olympics. Facilities are improving and Travel Lodge has just applied for its third extension!
- Tourism Officials, working closely with VisitBritain, are focusing on a strong legacy by ensuring that the region attracts a younger, professional, higher spending visitor, who is keen on walking, cycling, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.
- 97% of buyers who visited the show in 2009 intend to visit the next show
- 60% of buyers who visited the show in 2009 said that they found the show quite important to making their purchasing decisions - 30% said very important!
- The Show marketing campaign includes advertising via Dorset Echo, Wessex FM, Taste of Dorset Awards, direct mail, e-shots and supplier promotion.
